7 Ways to Simplify Gift Hunting this Mother’s Day

  • Say what you mean, mean what you say.

Although “action speaks louder than words”, the latter is still as powerful if applied correctly. Write a letter, or curate a card. If you’re in a creative vibe, create a poem or write a short song for them. Maybe design a quote that reminds you of them. Have it on a canvas, pained, or printed on an item they can use or see often.

  • Memories for Keeps

Compile a series of photos of your favorite times with your mom, maybe put some funny captions, and have them printed on an album or photo book. Nowadays it can be made straight out of your phone, with little to no instructions. It couldn’t get any easier.

  • The gift of time

Time for a mother is a priceless commodity. But for the most part, they forget how to spend it on things they love especially if they have been attached to their duties for too long.

And ladies, listen up: Please plan out your free time accordingly, do the thing you want to do that you’ve been delaying forever (not the things that need to get done), and enjoy! 😉

Our fast-paced world makes thinking about gifts even more stressful nowadays. How about we try to slow down, put down our phones, and have a good conversation? For the most part, mothers just wanted downtime and someone to sit down and chat with. Schedule a phone call or a date with her, and do something together. Explore something new, or join her in an activity she loves the most.

  • Little treats that go a long way

Big-ticket items sure are memorable (for the price that you’ll pay, of course) but sometimes, a bunch of little treats will be as sweet. Depending on her interests and hobbies, you can personalize a gift set of her “favorite things”. Love gardening? Maybe some tools, garden gloves, and seeds to start her garden. Art? Maybe a canvas and paintbrushes. Binge-watcher of shows? (Ahem.) Pop in some beverage and all-the-snacks-you-know-she-wants. You can keep it as simple or as elaborate as you want with this one, especially if there is distance involved.

  • A gift to honor her name

Donating in honor of someone means that you’re giving to a charity with that person in mind. If you can’t think of anything else, maybe support a charity that your mom is fond of and actively supporting.

  • Ask her!

Having lived in the U.S. for a couple of years, it’s amazing how people can be so upfront with their conversations, like asking a person for a gift list. So if you’re still clueless, you might as well ask what she wants. (what she really, really wants! ). Sometimes you’ll be surprised how easy and simple moms want for Mother’s Day. Not only will it be helpful for both parties to plan out the day, but the doubt of the gift being appreciated will also be gone. Win-win!

  • For the ones that have come and gone

I lost my mother in 2022 and last year was an emotional battle to get through this special day. Although I am a mother, it hits differently knowing that you can’t do anything physical for that special person on this occasion.

Last year, I took to heart into making a Mary garden for her. She loved flowers so much, that I often hear her visions of owning or working at a flower farm or a flower shop. She used to tease me into letting her live with us here in the U.S. so she could fulfill her “flower dreams”.

I learned how to grow vegetables some years back, but I was very insecure about growing a flower garden, let alone a Mary garden. But I did it, amid grief, and it helped in alleviating the pain of her loss and producing something good and beautiful.

However you want to celebrate this day, I hope you find the perfect gift for your lovely Moms and have them feel honored and appreciated.

Love and blessings!
